Tutorials
The term tutorial refers to a more interactive way of learning than a lecture or a book. An internet-based tutorial refers to a recorded lecture, or a video or an audio file, which may be downloadable. Here a person is taught in a step-by-step way, how to solve a problem or is given instructions to do something. The software also includes a method in which a test is done and the degree to which the content is understood is analyzed. The tutorials can also have branches where additional information is given on things already learnt. Some computer-based tutorials also teach a person how to use new software or an instrument sometimes by even showing a video of how something is done. There are forums where certain doubts can be clarified.
This is aimed at all age groups. There are many tutorials online which teach people how to play various musical instruments, dance in different styles, learn to operate different machines or instruments. Some tutorials also teach languages. They are created in modules where one module teaches a certain part of the entire package, say verbs, nouns, grammar etc. Computer programming languages also can be learnt by such tutorials. They usually have a section that addresses common problems that students encounter while learning the programming language. These online facilities make it possible for people from different parts of the world to learn things they wouldn't have been able to otherwise.
